On this page, the webmaster lists his main sources of information.
This may seem particularly important because most of his sources are
people whom he has never even met !
-
One important source has been various webpages, and also some
of the publications listed in the Bibliography
-- principally the books written by Lady Fanny Blunt and Lady
Patricia Maddocks.
-
Peter Thomas Henry Gordon Zohrab was
apparently the first to construct a family tree of any of the descendants
of Zohrab, although it was limited in scope to his great-uncle,
his grandfather, and the latter's descendants.
-
-
Edward van Put, of the Netherlands,
provided (in 2004) a photocopy of a
family tree, also apparently by Judge Edgar Zorab.
This tree is in colour, has the lines of the notebook showing,
has writing, apparently by Judge Edgar Zorab, in Dutch, and
has had the names of people added to it in another hand.
This must have been the original tree, and the one above must
have been a hand-drawn copy.
-
The next Roman alphabet Zohrab/Zorab family tree was drawn
up by Dr. Phillip Zorab, of England, on the basis of research
carried out in Armenia and Iran by Judge Edgar Zorab, including
the first Roman alphabet tree. This seems to depart from Judge
Edgar's tree in some important respects, and for unknown reasons.
-
The next (and by far the largest) Roman alphabet family tree
was drawn up by Kelvin (deceased
in 2011) and Rosemary Pollock, of
England. Rosemary Pollock is part of the
Greenwood branch). They are one of the main sources
on various aspects of the family's history, starting in 1996.
In 2003 they sent detailed answers to a list of questions Peter
Dougals Zohrab had sent them about discrepancies between their
version and Dr. Philip Zorab's version of the family tree, etc..
In their letter of 2003, they gave the following account of
the start of their involvement with Zohrab genealogy:
"The First Family Tree (FFT) was sent to us about 8
years agoby a cousin of Rosemary's, Susan Russell, who had received
it from Judith, the widow of Charles Peter Zorab ( (1902-1968).
Another cousin Gerald Lloyd-Williams's wife Judy is a cousin
of Ann, wife of Harold Zorab (nephew of Charles Peter Zorab),
and shortly afterwards Gerald and Judy invited Harold and Ann
to their house for lunch and to meet us. Harold then explained
to us about the family history and brought the FFT more up to
date for us. Sadly Harold died at the end of 2000.
Over the years, we met him and his wife on several occasions
and corresponded. I asked him to let me see his father
Edgar's sources from which the FFT was prepared."
In the same letter, the Pollocks gave the following as their
main sources on earlier generations of the Zohrab family: (A)
A version written by Judge Edgar Zorab of the family tree of
the Zohrabian family composed by Aviet (Avetik) Carapiet Zohrabyants
in 1919. (B) Harold Zorab's cousin Armen Joseph's booklet
about the family, dated 1991. (C) A German biographical
encyclopedia, parts of which were translated by Armen Joseph
from Armenian into English. (D) Lady Maddock's documents,
including the family tree by Peter Thomas Henry Gordon Zohrab
(1817-1881). (E) Letters written by Rev. James Kayll, based
on information from General Zohrab (in Egypt or Paris) and Edward
Goodwin Fortescue Zohrab, grandson of Peter Thomas Henry Gordon
Zohrab.
-
The late Dr. John Zorab, of England,
researched the family's history and planned to write a book
on the Zorab branch of the Zorab/Zohrab family. He was also
one of the main sources on various aspects of the family's history,
starting in 2000 --particularly as regards his branch of the
family.

about Edward Zohrab, and
also raised the question which led to the jointly-agreed tentative
location of Dr. Johannes Zohrab
on the family tree. This, in turn, confirms Kelvin Pollocks'
theory that it was not Constantine, Sophie and Peter
Paul John Zohrab but the previous generation who left Persia.

information in 2012, which the webmaster used to amend family tree
information about Johan Eliazar
(Hans) Zorab and his descendants.
-
In May 2012, the webmaster altered the family tree, so as to make
Paul, rather than Constantine, the apparent father of Constantine,
Sophie and Peter Zohrab -- see ztbltre2.html
line 146. The reason for this change was evidence to the effect
that someone called Paul, rather than Constantine, was their father
-- see zdetail2.html . However, it is
not certain which "Paul" on the family tree was their
father. In fact, Constantine might have had "Paul" as
his middle name and might have preferred to be called Paul -- especially
if his brother Paul had been killed by the Shah of Iran.
